Hamburg Port Railway simplifies its organizational structures using
a modern IT system

The railroad tracks in the port of Hamburg are currently used by 80 different railroad companies. As a result of the liberalization of rail traffic the organizational structures have become more and more complicated. Consequently, the existing planning and controlling system is reaching its technical limits, despite only having been introduced in the 1990s.

To solve this problem, Lufthansa Systems has designed a fundamentally new system. It complements the modernization of the port railway which has been in full swing since 2008. Lufthansa Systems is the general contractor for the realization of the project.

On the new platform, different applications will be able to communicate with each other directly. As from 2012, everything will then be simpler – for example, checking the railcar locations, scheduling the port railway and the loading operators as well as communication between the railway companies and the loading operators.
